Hotel Tresanton – Cornwall, England
A collection of little houses on the edge of St Mawes, with terraces and a path all the way down to the sea, Tresanton is like a village itself. And with one of the most stylish names in the hotel world as the proprietor, it’s no wonder we love it here. It has one of the most perfect spots on this part of the Cornish coast, and it’s not difficult to spend many an hour sitting on the terrace, looking out across the sparkling sea. Olga Polizzi’s flair is evident everywhere.
The hotel is elegantly furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and sculptures and artwork by local artists, giving an air of refinement and relaxation. Outside, the terraces of The Beach Club are a real draw, and the subtropical gardens transport you to distant climes. Utterly fabulous staff make you welcome the minute you arrive – so it doesn’t take long to know that you’re on holiday. And it’s one of the reasons why guests return again and again. That, and the food and relaxing Cornish vibe.

We love attention to detail, and that’s exactly what you’ll find in each and every room and suite. Spread across five separate houses, they are all completely individual, beautifully styled and decorated, to the point that they feel like a private house. Many of the doubles can be made into twins, and there’s space for cots in lots of them. All but two have a sea view and many have their own terrace.
food
How does dining on thoroughly delicious local and seasonal produce sound? There is no shortage of locally caught seafood, from hand dived scallops to Fowey mussels. The restaurant, with its south facing views and terrace, has a Mediterranean feel. Just above the water line, there’s a beach club, where light lunches and fresh juices are served from May to September. Make sure you’re there for the Sunday barbeque served on the main terrace during July and August.. And for a more informal setting, the Dog’s Bar is a cosy place for families, and yes, your dog too.
activities
There’s a very good reason why Cornwall is on so many people’s list of favourite places to go. There are simply endless things to do and see, topped by having some of the best beaches in the country. From paddle boarding and kayaking to fishing trips and chartering the hotel’s own private yacht Pinuccia with a crew and a picnic, you could spend your entire time in and around it. The South West Coastal Path is close by offering spectacular walking, and not far away is the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
The coastline is dotted with little fishing villages and you’re always within easy reach of very good places to eat. And in St Mawes itself there are galleries and boutiques and cafés – making it a browser’s haven. The hotel also offers a range of spa treatments to further help guests unwind.
