The Big House on the Hill
Plas Uchaf, meaning ‘Big House on the Hill’, is a luxurious Welsh hideaway and rural manor house overlooking the beautiful Tanat Valley. It’s family-and dog-friendly, with everything you need to enjoy quality time together both indoors and out. Entirely removed from any neighbours, at the end of a long private drive, you’ll find stunning views, 4 acres of peaceful gardens, a sweeping lawn, majestic dining areas abound, and a 6-seater hot tub.
First built in 1796, The Big House on the Hill has recently experienced a marvellous restoration by its interior design owners, retaining all of its previous splendour while adding quirky touches, stunning fabrics and artwork from all over the world. Sprawling over three floors, including an elegant reception area, there’s ample room to spread out and relax. It’s absolutely ideal for larger groups, sleeping up to 14 guests in five en-suite bedrooms and a further two rooms with family bathrooms.
What can I do during my stay?
No holiday in Wales would be complete without absorbing the spectacular scenery and abundance of activities on offer! One of our favourite features of the Big House on the Hill is how close it is to wonderful attractions, despite feeling so remote.
Get active and visit Snowdonia National Park. Just a 30-minute drive away, the entire region is spectacularly beautiful and fantastic for hiking. Closer to home, the jaw-dropping Pistyll Rhaedr Waterfalls are only 15 minutes away. Lake Vyrnwy, another stunning spot against the backdrop of the Berwyn Mountains, is a 15-minute drive, with plenty of hiking and biking trails, alongside scenic viewpoints, where you can also hire kayaks and canoes! Whilst you’re out and about by the lake, pop into the Artisans Café. Alongside sandwiches, toasted baguettes, and freshly prepared soup, you’ll also find 50 different ice cream flavours to sample.
Slightly further afield is Zip World, in the former slate quarry of Penrhyn. It’s a unique and very special adventure, and perfect for injecting added excitement into your trip! There’s something for the entire family too, with Europe’s longest ziplines, a high-ropes course, and underground trampolines.
Otherwise take your swimsuit and relax at the house in the hot tub, or take a good book to hideaway from the world with, or just enjoy spending quality time away from reality, in a stunning setting, with those you love!
