Le Hameau Albert 1er – Chamonix Mont-Blanc
You know you’re in good hands when the hotel you’re staying in has been in the legendary Carrier family for over a hundred years. Established in 1903 and built in the traditional Haute Savoie style, Le Hameau mixes old and new in its garden and orchard setting. It is an authentic and peaceful mountain haven that knows a thing or two about first-class hospitality. And not surprisingly, the cuisine is a stand-out feature, earning it a Michelin star.
With a prime location in the heart of Chamonix, a stone’s throw from the slopes, it is one of the finest places to stay in the valley, both in winter and summer.

food
The family legacy of gastronomic excellence shines through, with Perrine Carrier, the fifth generation to preside over the kitchens. She is joined by the innovative Damien Leveau, whose mantra is taste and simplicity. The Albert 1er Restaurant has a well-deserved Michelin star as a result, with food from local producers, as well as the hotel’s own vegetable garden. With a heady six hundred and forty bottles on the wine menu, the Head Sommelier will guide you to the perfect pairing. La Maison Carrier has more of a farmhouse brasserie feel, serving delicious mountain food with an unmissable pudding trolley.
activities
Winter or summer, Chamonix is a mecca for active travellers. Close to the slopes of Le Brévent and La Flégère, skiers staying here have instant access to the Chamonix domaine. Ski touring, cross-country skiing, spectacular off-piste terrain, heli-skiing and the inimitable Vallée Blanche, all await those who thrive on adrenalin. The more gentle pursuits of snowshoeing, ice skating and enjoying everything that the centre of Chamonix has to offer, are on hand for those who take things at a more gentle pace.
Life doesn’t slow down in the summer. There are infinite trails for trekking, mountain biking and horse riding, and you’ll find a good choice of golf courses. It’s the perfect place for road cycling, and the rivers offer kayaking and canyoning. Back at Le Hameau, restore your batteries at Le Bachal Spa, with its comprehensive range of therapies and treatments, hot tub, steam room and sauna. And the indoor and outdoor pools (the latter with first rate Mont Blanc views) are just another fabulous way of ending the day after being in the mountains.
family
Most definitely a family hotel, with much of the accommodation being suited to those with children. The proximity to the lower slopes of Le Brévent and La Flégère, will also make getting out in the mornings much easier.
