Royal Mansour – Marrakesh, Morocco
The Royal Mansour can only be described as the jewel in crown of Marrakech. Not only is it owned by King Mohammed VI, it was designed by him, and took five years to build, using a legion of artisans and master craftsmen. The result is an opulent and intimate medina within a medina, with six star luxury, sitting in 12 acres of fragrant Arab and Andalusian gardens, on the edge of the city’s historic centre.
Guests are surrounded by gentle fountains, dazzling surroundings, impeccably trained staff, and the serenest of atmospheres, with the delights of Marrakech just steps away.

Richly decorated with sumptuous fabrics, intricately hand carved wooden panels, unique zellige tiles and exquisite inlay, and fanciful marble bathrooms, each private riad is impossibly romantic and intimate. Choose from a wonderfully spacious one bedroom Superior Riad to an even larger, Premier, Privilege or Prestige Riad, through to the height of luxurious medina living, with the four bedroom Grand Riad.
They are all spread over three floors and come with courtyards full of scented flowers, and each roof terrace is furnished with daybeds, dining tables, a plunge pool and a traditional Moroccan fireplace for cosy evenings. Needless to say, the views of the old city and the Atlas Mountains are sublime.
food
The Royal Mansour is one of the finest places to eat in the entire city. Breakfasts are a literal feast of fresh pastries, juices and a seemingly endless choice from an à la carte menu. Dine on excellent French cuisine at brasserie style La Table, Italian fare at Sesamo, or wonderful Asian and Mediterranean dishes in the gardens at Le Jardin. La Grande Table Marocaine is the hotel’s signature restaurant, serving classic Moroccan dishes and headed by a three star Michelin chef.
For a special occasion, private dining can also be arranged on your roof terrace or hidden away in the grounds. Many of the fresh vegetables and herbs are picked fresh from the hotel gardens.
activities
The concierge service is on hand to organise any number of tours and experiences. You are minutes from the souks and the Djemaa el-Fna, which can be explored with a private guide, or delve deeper into Marrakech, visiting the ornamental gardens, mosques and palaces. Venture further afield into the desert for dune boarding, horse or camel riding, or walk through Berber villages in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. This is the place to book a dawn balloon ride and watch the red desert light up with the first rays.
Within the hotel itself, there are art and cookery classes, and no visit should be without a treatment in the Spa – a true sanctuary. Treat yourself to a hammam – one of the best places to have one.
family
This is the place to live like a royal family. The larger riads are ideal, and cots can easily be provided. Baby products can be pre-ordered and a babysitting service is available. For four to ten year olds there’s a professionally run kid’s club – Le Jardin de Lila – which runs a host of cultural activities, creative workshops and games.
sustainability
Protecting the environment and its surroundings is taken very seriously at Royal Mansour. Energy and water management is monitored very closely with many practices in place to conserve and re use wherever possible. Staff are trained specifically in this area to ensure that green measures and recycling policies are adhered to, and organic waste is composted.
