The resort is relatively compact, but the off piste, heli skiing and touring opportunities surrounding it, are extensive. Your lift pass covers Riksgränsen too, and there’s a regular shuttle between the two resorts.
Pistes
The slopes here are very much geared towards intermediates and advanced skiers, with a high proportion of challenging black runs. This is a cross country skier’s paradise, with a multitude of tracks criss-crossing the mountains.
Restaurants
The views from the restaurant Lapporten make it worth eating there alone. It also helps that the traditional Swedish à la carte menu is also fabulous. If you’re booking a ski tour, make sure this is part of your itinerary. Just north of the resort is the country’s highest mountain lodge – Låktatjåkko – don’t leave without ordering a waffle.
Après ski
The place to head after a day on the slopes is Bar Rallaren in the Hotel Fjället, or the Snöbar by the fire, or on the terrace when it’s sunny.
Unique to Björkliden
There are not many ski resorts where you get to see the Northern Lights!
