Nômade Holbox – Isla Holbox, Mexico
Intimate and restorative, Nômade Holbox can quite possibly be described as one of the most laid back retreats on the entire Yucatán Peninsula. The car free island is fringed with the whitest of sands and lapped by the most turquoise of waters, whilst the resort itself blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Wellbeing and reconnection are the heart of the resort’s ethos, and tranquility is the order of the day.
Traditional Mayan treatments, beach yoga and energising thalassotherapy treatments are all part of the daily ritual, leaving you soothed and very, very relaxed. Switch off your phone and swap the every day for chilled, barefoot luxury.

Designed to interweave with the natural environment and built to align between the earth and the sky, the 30 suites are divided between Treehouses, Oceanfront retreats and Moon Temple Rooms. All are made from island materials, and each one is a soothing sanctuary. The Treehouse Suites rise above the canopy with 360 degree views from their rooftop terraces, and come with inside and outside showers.
Built for privacy, the Moon Temple Rooms have large terraces, complete with outdoor bathrooms and copper bathtubs, all surrounded by lush vegetation. And stepping right out onto the beach, the Ocean Front Suites resemble luxurious safari tents, with outdoor bathrooms and the sounds of the waves to lull you to sleep.
food
With ingredients fresh from the sea, caught by local fishermen and produce from the resort’s own organic island garden and farm on the mainland, the cuisine here is sensational. The chef, Elias Silva Resinas takes his inspiration from Peruvian-Japanese flavours, and the setting is delightfully informal. Eat grilled fish and fresh oysters with your toes in the sand, or wander along the beach to an equally impressive choice of beach club style restaurants.
activities
Nômade Holbox has a weekly wellbeing programme intimately linked with the surrounding nature. Start the day with a sunrise boat trip and a birding expert – the island is a major migratory stop off for birds heading north and south depending on the season. Spend your days beachcombing, or maybe a spot of kite surfing or sailing, then at night, head out on a kayak and witness the marvel of the bioluminescence in the water. In between, join a meditation session, or a beach yoga class.
Indulge in relaxing water healing treatments, rebalancing techniques or music therapy. It’s the place to come to unplug and unwind.
family
Nômade Holbox is very much a grown up retreat. This one is for honeymooners and parents after some child-free time.
sustainability
The entire resort has been built with natural materials from the island, leaving no impact on Holbox itself. Much of the power used is from solar energy; there is absolutely no plastic and all produce is organically grown or sustainably sourced.
