Visit Victoria Falls - Day 1 to 4

Africa’s greatest natural wonder is filled with adrenaline fuelled activities and breath taking views. Victoria falls is one of the worlds most iconic sights, with 650 million litres of Zambezi water plummeting into the Batoka Gorge every minute, it sits on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. If you’re on safari in southern Africa, then visiting them should definitely be top of your list.

Straddling no fewer than four countries, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, the falls can be viewed from both Zambia and Zimbabwe. For those thrill seekers, you can go bungee-jumping or white-water rafting, take a helicopter flight or swing across the gorge, but if you prefer to keep you feet on dry land start off gently with a walk along the precipitous edge of the waterfall.

STAY: Tongabezi Lodge

Close to Victoria Falls,  enjoy some R&R at this quirky and stylish Zambian-style lodge. Tongabezi is an assortment of quirky houses and cottages dotted along the banks of the Zambezi and only a short boat ride away from the heart of Victoria Falls and buzzing Livingstone town where a host of wild and wonderful activities are easily accessible. Although you can’t go wrong with a day spent in this secluded and peaceful hideaway…

Lower Zambezi - Day 4 to 7

The Lower Zambezi National Park is one of our favourite destinations in Zambia. 4500 square kilometers of Zambezi escarpment wilderness make up the vast reserve.  Game drives (and canoe safaris) into the park often encounter large herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra and the huge densities of wildlife tend to stick near the river. This is also ideal leopard habitat and it’s not uncommon to see one of these rare predators lazing in a tree beside the river.

It’s also possible to self-drive through the park, or you may choose to stay at one of the top lodges that offer the full Lower Zambezi experience.

STAY: Chiawa Camp

Established by the Cummings family, Chiawa was one of the first camps to be developed in the Lower Zambezi in the 1990s.  Owner-run camps are a rare breed in Africa and Chiawa has truly earned it’s reputation where understated luxury is standard and nothing is ever too much trouble for the owners and their dedicated team.

Coupled with a superb location on the banks of the Zambezi where you can relax and watch hippos splash in the water whilst buffalo graze lazily on the grassy islands and you have a camp that is hard to beat.

South Luangwa - Day 7 to 10

South Luangwa National Park is one of the most magnificent wilderness areas in southern Africa and the home of the walking-safari, chic yet rustic bush camps and incredible guides. Bordered by the great Luangwa River, which supports a large diversity of megafauna along its course through eastern Zambia, the park is home to one of its largest populations of hippo and crocodile, while elephant, zebra and many predators are attracted to its fertile and forested banks.

The park is famous for leopard sightings, and the numbers that hunt on the river here have earned it the nickname “The Valley of the Leopard”. The great lodges, high quality guiding and stunning wilderness make this one of our top adventure safaris.

STAY: Time and Tide Mchenja Bush Camp

Boasting one of the most picturesque locations of any bush camp in the Luangwa, Mchenja is a rustic yet stylish camp with walking safaris, game drives and fantastic big cat viewing. The camp is set in the northern section of the park, high on the banks of the river in a shady grove of mchenja (ebony) trees from which the camp takes its name.  Awash with animals and daily game drives, you’ll be treated to wonderful sightings, from the baboons swinging in the trees to the predators stalking across the plains. Mchenja perfectly balances a little bit of luxury with a true wilderness experience, in a stylish tented haven.
