The weather is getting warmer in the southern Mediterranean, children are still at school – it’s the time to treat yourself to an adult only break. Many long haul destinations have great availability and the slopes are still snowsure. If you’re pushed for time, this month is ideal for a midweek or long weekend in a European city – they’re always much quieter.
Val D'Isere
Sunny days and high altitude skiing – it’s the perfect recipe. The slopes in the Espace Killy, especially the north facing ones, retain their snow, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get a fresh fall or two whilst you’re there. Once the schools have gone back, and the slopes empty out, you have nearly 300km of pistes at the tips of your skis.

Head to the souks, mountains and deserts of Morocco before the peak season. The temperatures are relatively mild, making cities like Marrakech a good location to base yourself, and the signs of spring are just beginning to appear. The Rif and Atlas Mountains and the Sahara will be cool in the evenings, so pack something warm.

The north facing slopes in Warth continue to have excellent coverage, whilst the Weiss Ring will be free of crowds. Whilst it’s still chilly in the UK, it’s beginning to warm up in the Canary Islands in March, with usually around seven hours of sunshine a day. It’s even possible to take a dip in the ocean. The island is beginning to bloom, and you’ll find empty hiking trails and beaches. Wander through the botanical gardens in Puerto de la Cruz or explore the rugged Anaga Rural Park.

A country that goes from a temperate climate in the north, to a tropical climate in the south, March brings the most consistent warm and dry weather. Meaning you can visit almost any part of the country. Visit Hoi An and witness the Lantern Festival and glide along the channels of the Mekong Delta to see the vibrant floating markets. It’s a good time to trek in the mountains in the north too, visiting local hill tribes and surrounding yourself with stunning scenery.
