Very few places to the run up to Christmas better than New York. From Thanksgiving until early New Year, the decorations are lit around the city, and the atmosphere is truly special. Skating in Central Park is a must, as are the holiday markets, endless window shopping, a visit to the tree at the Rockefeller Centre, and a show at Radio City. Wrap up warm though, it’s chilly.

All the lifts formally open at the beginning of December, and with its snowsure record, you’re likely to get some phenomenal skiing in before the Christmas skiers arrive. You can look forward to perfect temperatures in Thailand in December, as the dry season gets well and truly under way. The hill country in the north is generally cooler, making ideal conditions for trekking, whilst the beaches in the south are bathed in sunshine. Head here in early December to avoid the crowds.
