Ambergris Cay Private Island Resort
Ambergris Cay is where all-inclusive really means totally exclusive, and where you’ll find the most luxurious and remote private hideaway you can possibly imagine. It hangs of the south east tip of the Turks and Caicos archipelago, only reached by private plane or boat. And occupying just a quarter of this rugged, sugary sand fringed island, the resort is spread out enough to make it feel like your very own private idyll.
Perfect beaches, rugged dunes and one of the world’s largest coral reefs just off shore, coupled with sublime villas and a personal butler service… it doesn’t get more heavenly.

Dotted along the beach on the western Caribbean side of the island, the secluded Beach Bungalows, stare dreamily out to sea, with just a heated pool and a stretch of white sand between your private terrace and the water. With ample space, floor to ceiling windows that fill the rooms with light, and an outdoor shower, they’re perfect couple hideaways. They can also sleep a couple of children up to the age of ten.
Or for a family, opt for one of the vast Two Bedroom Beachfront Bungalows, with their huge decks and palm fringed setting. The Villas are stand alone grand residences, facing the Atlantic, and furnished so stylishly, you’ll want to move in! Sleeping between six and 12 guests, they sit on the dunes on a secluded part of the island, with open plan living and large infinity pools. Each bungalow and villa comes with golf carts for driving to and from the clubhouse and around the island, a personal butler, and if you’re staying in a villa near Whale Watcher Point, watch out for humpbacks in the winter months.
food
With a team of highly trained international chefs, the culinary repertoire at Ambergris is exceptional, where anything can be created to suit any palate. Using the finest, seasonal ingredients, the à la carte changes daily and is served around the resort, from the airy Calico restaurant that opens out onto a beachfront terrace, to around the pool, or in the privacy of your own bungalow or villa. Have a picnic made up for you to take to one of the surrounding cays, and lunch on a sandbar, or in a secluded spot on the island.
activities
Ambergris is a place to completely unwind and enjoy the seclusion of your bungalow or villa. However, there is a wealth of activities, that your private butler is on hand to organise and schedule – be it a beach picnic, a conch-diving expedition or a tennis lesson. The island has an abundance of wildlife both on land and in the waters surrounding it – it’s part of the world’s third largest coral system.
Guests here can enjoy on and off shore fishing, a range of non-motorised water sports, and trips to Little Ambergris Cay with a castaway picnic – surely one of the most idyllic ways to spend a day. Kayak through the mangroves, or head out into the ocean on a whale watching trip. There are a host of trails around the island (suitable for bikes and golf carts too), and a guided nature walk will reveal its indigenous flora and fauna. And for guests seeking a wellness break, the yoga sessions and massages at the Spa will definitely do the trick. As the day draws to a close, relax at the Clubhouse around a bonfire, and later, just sit back and gaze at the stars.
family
The larger bungalows and the villas promise the perfect setting for families. With their space, facilities and stretch of private beach, it doesn’t get much better. There are plenty of activities for children, with games in the Clubhouse and an Explorer’s Hut for younger ones.
sustainability
Ambergris is a self-sustained resort, with its own water supply – the natura cisterns were used by pirates and explorers – and 50% of its electricity comes from solar energy. You’ll find no single use plastic here, but most impressively, the resort is partnered with San Diego Zoo, which has regular research trips here to study the indigenous population of iguanas, flamingo, osprey and pygmy boas.
