CERVO – Zermatt, Switzerland
For skiers and foodies, the CERVO ticks each and every box. Its enviable position, with direct access to the Sunnegga Express lift, and located at the bottom of a couple of red runs back down, together with its exceptional menu (we’ve had our fair share of the truffle chips), make it one of the best places to stay in Zermatt. Contemporary Swiss chalet style on the outside and modern, clean and crisp alpine chic with traditional touches here and there on the inside – we love the décor here.
But most of all, it’s about soaking up the atmosphere. Late afternoons spent on the terrace looking out across the Matterhorn with a drink and live music – the CERVO’s après ski is not surprisingly very popular. Match this with typical Zermatt hospitality, and it’s not hard to see why this is one of our favourites.

food
The food here is so exceptionally good, the dilemma is whether to go small on lunch up the mountain and save space for dinner, or to ski back and sit on the terrace with a famous CERVO burger. For sophisticated dining, Madre Nostra serves fresh and seasonal cuisine with an Italian influence. Here you will find homemade pasta and delicious grilled meat and fish, with all of the ingredients coming from local farms and fishermen.
In a separate chalet, Ferdinand is where you head for hearty traditional Swiss fondues and raclettes – paired with wine from and extensive list. Meanwhile relaxed Bazaar is inspired by the lively markets of the East. The menu here is one hundred percent vegetarian and served throughout the day.
activities
Zermatt itself is a playground for sport enthusiasts and nature lovers. Unlike many hotels in the centre of Zermatt, the CERVO with its mountainside location, has very easy access to the slopes and guests can save precious time in the morning, by hopping straight onto the Sunnegga Express funicular. The Mountain Ashram Spa is a fantastic space for relaxation with a herbal steam bath, japanese onsen, natural swimming pool, tea yurt, sauna, treatment rooms, ritual room, as well as yoga and pilates on offer. There is also a climbing wall and a gym.
Summer
A stay here in the summer time is a truly magical experience. The mountains are are extremely beautiful. In Zermatt there are endless hiking and biking trails and CERVO is the place to be for an aprés bike or hike. With special summer packages (speak to us) as well as DJs, artists and travelling yogis/therapists from all over the world visiting here there is plenty to keep you entertained. There is also only a few minutes away from Zermatt lies the small village of Täsch with the Schali Lake.
On its shores, Schali Lago offers summer atmosphere with cool drinks, Mediterranean food and guaranteed beach feeling. If you are searching for some more down time why not unwind with yoga or meditation whilst gazing out at views of the Matterhorn on their sun deck.
