Elounda Peninsula – Crete, Greece
Standing sophisticatedly on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by the azure waters of Mirabello Bay and jaw-droppingly beautiful views, Elounda Peninsula is one of Crete’s best places to stay. We love the clever architecture that blends in with its dramatic setting, combined with plenty of Greek charm and authentic hospitality. There are only suites here, all of which are bountiful in size and look out over the sea towards the Sitia Mountains on the east of the island.
This is a place for relaxing and taking advantage of the wealth of activities on offer – water sports galore, golf, tennis, or for those after slightly less exertion, the Spa. The wonders of Crete are easily reached, with Spinalonga Island and Plaka a short drive away. So just pack your swimwear, suntan lotion and the books you’ve been meaning to read for ages and wind down Cretan style.

food
One of the great things about staying at the Elounda Peninsula is the huge variety of restaurants. At Calypso, with its fabulous sea view, the emphasis is on a la carte breakfast, whilst Sumosan is a contemporary Japanese restaurant situated just above the sea level. The Il Borro Tuscan Bistro, an Italian restaurant is located in an amazing setting on the waterfront. The wine cellar can be booked for private dining and has a superb choice of Greek wines, as well as a comprehensive international list.
There are a further six restaurants in the sister hotels where guests can also eat on a dine-around service, including the Yacht Club with its beachfront location and Elies, under an ancient olive grove, next to the beach and seaside pool of the resort, serving delicious classic Greek dishes.
activities
The Six Senses Spa is shared with Elounda Peninsula’s sister hotels, and the treatment list is extensive, including individually tailored wellness programmes. Not surprisingly, there are a number of water sports on offer from water skiing and wakeboarding to scuba diving and windsurfing, and guests can rent motor boats to explore further afield. Or you can go bigger and charter the resort’s private yacht. There’s a nine-hole golf course, two tennis courts, and a private cinema too.
family
With their spacious suite-only accommodation, there are plenty of options for families. The resort has exceptional childcare facilities with their Kids Ark. It offers a crèche for children from aged between four months and four years and an activities centre for kids over the age of five. There’s a children’s pool with waterslides, trampolines, a basketball court, table-top games, as well as tennis, golf and water sports lessons for older children. The restaurants have kids’ menus and can prepare fresh food for babies.
Guests can even pre-order nappies and supplies that will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive. You can rest assured that children are treated like royalty here!
