Ski Area

The Arlberg ski area is Austria’s largest, and one of the most extensive in the world. With recent new lift openings, the entire area has become more accessible, with over 300km of slopes and a further 200km of off piste routes (best skied with a guide). The village enjoys a long season, with a good snow record.

Pistes

Lech has slopes for every level of skier, and the ski schools are easily reached – with perfect slopes for first timers. Intermediates are rewarded with some challenging reds and long cruising runs. And for experts, there’s a large percentage of blacks, with the slopes above Warth-Schröcken especially exhilarating. The famous White Ring is a legendary circuit connecting Lech, Zürs, Zug and Oberlech, taking at least half a day to complete.

Restaurants

Between Lech and Zürs, you’ll find some of the best mountain restaurants around, combining a winning mix of wonderful hospitality and exceptional regional food. Many are family run, with local and foraged ingredients. Murmeli at the top of the gondola in Oberlech, is renowned for its fish dishes, whilst Rud-Alpe on the Schlegelkopf slope, boasts stunning views from its terrace and traditional food. Make sure you leave room for apple strudel. For elegant, fine dining, make a booking for dinner at the Hotel Almhof Schneider.

Après ski

Lech’s upmarket status lends itself much more to a quiet and refined post-ski drink. Finish your day at the Krone Hotel, right on the slopes for an aperitif or glass of champagne, then dance late into the night at the K-Club. The bar at the Tannbergerhof is also an understated spot to wrap up your day on the slopes.

Unique to Lech

It’s not uncommon to see European royalty grace the slopes. Many have taken their family holidays here for decades.
