The beaches

The Montenegro Riviera is notable for the beautiful backdrop of its many beaches. And the clarity of the water. Not only will you find them along the Adriatic coast, but inland, around the many crystal clear lakes.

Kotor

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this medieval town is a labyrinth of Venetian palaces, churches, narrow cobbled streets and ancient squares buzzing with cafés. Fortified by impressive bulwarks, the town is a cultural gem.

National Parks

From limestone peaks, to lakelands, and from alpine pastures to ancient forests, the country has more of its fair share of stunning landscapes, with five national parks covering ten percent of the country’s territory. Each one is very well served with hiking and biking trails.

Mausoleums and monasteries

Carved into a rockface, 900m above the Zeta valley, the Ostrog Monastery is an unmissable site. And the climb of 461 steps to the Njegoš Mausoleum is worth it for the gold mosaic and the extraordinary views.

Thrill seeking

For the intrepid traveller, there’s whitewater rafting in the Tara River, with rushing rapids and waterfalls, and a 1050m zipline over the gorge (one of the deepest in Europe).

Food and wine

For simple, home grown and more often than not, organic, Montenegrin cuisine is something to write home about. Fresh seafood on the coast, and hearty, slow-cooked meat dishes in the mountains, pasta, and cheeses, all washed down with excellent local wines. Make sure you try the local grapes, Krstač and Vranac.
