Skiers have flocked to the French slopes for decades – and for good reason. Home to seven of the world’s ten largest ski areas, the Trois Vallées coming top with 600km of pistes, the French Alps have a dizzying choice of resorts. In fact, the country has nearly 30% of the world’s ski resorts, and the variety of terrain is tremendous. France is also renown for high altitude snow sure resorts, with glacier skiing extending the season in many.
There’s a wonderful mix of traditional villages and purpose-built resorts packed with first class facilities; catered and non- catered chalets and excellent five star hotels, whilst the choice of mountain restaurants is beyond mouthwatering. From simple mountain huts to Michelin star excellence, it’s impossible to be disappointed. The Savoyard favourites of fondue and tartiflette grace many a menu, and who can resist a sunny terrace with a bottle of rosé?
