Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden – Mallorca
One of the latest additions to Palma’s already superb boutique retreat offering, Can Bordoy is bursting with charm, character and individual style. Tucked down a quiet street, it’s a sanctuary of calm – its crowning glory being the walled garden – the largest in the Old Quarter – making it the ideal secluded hideaway to enjoy the delights of Palma. It has its origins as a 16th century mansion, then a convent with the history of the building shining through in its newest incarnation.
Vintage pieces, gilded mirrors, large chandeliers and sumptuous furnishings fill the rooms, whilst outside, the courtyard and garden are quiet and peaceful. And as for the rooftop, with its glass-sided pool and 360 degree views, well, you might just want to settle in for the entire day. There’s little surprise that Can Bordoy has garnered a host of awards.

Mixing the original features with contemporary design, art deco and modern furniture, rich velvets and strong blues, the rooms and suites all have their individual character. Most fun of all are the extra large beds that have mattress firming technology, at the touch of a button. The Traveler Suites are comfortably sized and intimate, with plush stone bathrooms, whilst the more spacious Junior Suites are elegant and look out over the courtyard.
The Deluxe Suite is wildly romantic, with many of the mansion’s 16th century features on show,a deep soaking tub in the bedroom, long velvet drapes and views out over the Old Quarter. The even larger Premium Suites are havens, with soft velvet drapes surrounding the bed and bath tub. The Sky Suite is vast and comes with a private terrace, complete with hot tub, looking out over the Old Quarter and the cathedral – the perfect city bolt hole. For sumptuous and decandent luxury, the Grand Suites are hard to beat. The history of the house is wonderfully blended with every modern comfort you could possibly wish for.
food
In true Mediterranean style, dining is convivial and relaxed at Can Bordoy. Produce is organic, seasonal and locally sourced, and served in a number of delightful locations around the hotel. Breakfasts are healthy and plentiful – enjoy it on the terrace or in the comfort of your own room. At Botànic, there’s an inventive mix of flavours, together with delicious plant-forward dishes, inspired by the surrounding garden.
Sip a gin cocktail (from a local distillery) on the rooftop terrace and watch the sun set over the city, or find a quiet corner of the garden with a plate of tapas.
activities
Can Bordoy is a very special retreat from which to explore Palma and beyond – whether you base yourself here for your entire stay, or just spend a few days before your next stop. The ever friendly and helpful concierge service is on hand to arrange guides and tours, as well as share their knowledge of the island. Explore the city’s culture, galleries, boutiques, and wander the streets of the Old Quarter or head for the bustling waterfront.
The coast here is home to several chic beach clubs – just a short taxi ride away and an easy spot to spend a lazy day. Enjoy a day on the water on a Llaüt – a traditional Mallorcan boat, or a luxury catamaran. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, you can head into the Tramuntana Mountains and visit Deia and Soller for some hiking, biking, or just for lunch. Return home having learnt to create some typical Mallorcan dishes at a culinary workshop, or widen your wine knowledge with a tasting session at one of the island’s vineyards. Can Bordoy has a small Spa, in the orginal foundations of the house. Enjoy a massage here, or in the peaceful surroundings of the garden, to the sound of birdsong.
