And each evening, you return to a freshly built camp in a staggeringly beautiful location, with the aroma of a Middle Eastern feast drifting through and a crackling fire to take the edge off the cool of the night. Travel by 4×4, on foot and by camel, guided by local experts who know the terrain like the back of their hand, showing you the sights and the wildlife. rooms

For sheer romance, Hud Hud’s Bedouin tents are hard to beat. They come with proper beds with comfortable mattresses and feather pillows, made up in crisp linen. They’re filled with traditional furnishings and each tent has its own open air bathroom with a shower, basin and super soft towels. Depending on the location and the time of year, the tents vary in style, to ensure guests are as comfortable as possible. Each camp comes with large traditional “Majilis”, strung with lanterns and filled with plump cushions, kilim rugs, books and boardgames.

food

Hud Hud’s chef has been with them since its inception, and it is extraordinary what he and his team can create from the modest kitchen – truly outstanding feasts, with influences from the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean. Local produce is used wherever possible and if you’re celebrating a special occasion, they’ll design a menu just for you.

Each morning begins with a continental breakfast and a selection of cooked dishes, and there’s a three course dinner every evening, served on linen table cloths, under the stars. Delicious picnics are packed for the day, and make sure you save some room for the baclava.

activities

Whatever the length of your itinerary, each day is packed with a different destination and new adventures. One day you could be trekking at high altitude through the mountains, then snorkeling off a shallow reef in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean the next. Riding a camel across the dunes or sand boarding down one, then travelling to a wadi for a cooling dip and a freshly prepared picnic.

You’ll meet local people in the villages you visit and see their way of life, from watching carpet weavers to walking through date and papaya plantations and learning about Bedouin traditions. Soak up the atmosphere of the souks of Nizwa and Sinaw, with their heady scent of spices. As you travel between, mostly on ungraded roads and tracks, it’s the staggering beauty of your surroundings that will occupy you. And at night, look up at the stars and constellations – with no light pollution here, the skies are the clearest you’ll ever see. This is simply one of the most adventurous ways to see Oman.

family

Off grid in Oman certainly ticks the box for adventurous families! Each tent has room for an extra bed and children’s car seats can be provided.

sustainability

The camps leave no trace and Hud Hud are committed to preserving the environment in which it operates. Solar powered lights, candles and oil lamps are used, and water for showers is heated on demand. The company supports local craftsmen; buys fresh fish and locally produced produce and employs guides and experts from the region.
