One&Only Portonovi – Montenegro
The mountainous coastline of Montenegro is one of the most stunning parts of the Adriatic, dotted along the way with beautifully preserved Medieval and Venetian towns – all of which make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And this is where the opulent One&Only brand have created their first European resort. Lavishly designed, with a distinct nod to local architecture, a destination Spa and excellent gourmet restaurants, it’s crowned with stunning views of the glistening bay and surrounding dramatic landscape.
The resort has its own pristine private beach and marina, complete with luxury boats for cruising the bay, all set amongst landscaped gardens and lawns. Add to this a large doses of first rate One&Only service, and you’re in the lap of luxury.

Spacious, sumptuous and sophisticated, the rooms, suites and villas at Portonovi are all exquisitely designed and furnished, with earthy colours, designer furniture, sublime bathrooms and large balconies or terraces. The Portonovi Rooms look out over the gardens or mountains and are intimate for a couple, and can also accommodate an extra child. The Bayview Rooms, and Panoramic Bayview Rooms, looking out over Boka, are a similar size, with the latter taking full advantage of the glorious sunsets.
The Portonovi and Bayview Family Rooms feature two bedrooms with a king size bed and two twins. The Suites are positively vast, with similarly spacious terraces. They come with separate living and dining areas, and a butler. Choose from the Panoramic Bayview Suites, or if you’re travelling with children, the Two-Bedroom Family Suites. Suites 1,2 and 3 are akin to luxury apartments, sleeping up to four, six and eight guests respectively, with private entrances, separate service lifts for the butler and vast, panoramic terraces. For even more privacy, opt for a villa. These come with private hydrotherapy pools and gardens, and can sleep between five and eight guests.
food
With gourmet food from around the world, the choice at Portonovi is excellent. Go local at La Taverna, with its Montenegrin menu (with Turkish and Balkan influences), starting from breakfast, through to dinner. La Sabia looks out over the beach and beyond, serving fine Italian fare, whilst the chic Tapasake creates Japanese-Peruvian dishes with style and flair. The Tapasake Pool Club is for adults only, where an afternoon can easily be whiled away.
For relaxed dining and tapas style food, sit back at Caminetti, or alternatively, order room service or private dining at a quiet spot around the resort.
activities
Almost every type of holiday is catered for at Portonovi. You may be just after some quiet beach or pool time, or perhaps a week of water sports. Paddle around the bay in a kayak or on a SUP, windsurf across it, or take advantage of one of the resort’s classic speedboats. Go large and charter a superyacht for a day. Stay fit at one of the many classes run at the gym, or have lessons with an ATP pro on one of the floodlit tennis courts. And be sure to visit the Spa – it’s a destination in its own right.
Explore the wider area by boat, on foot, or in a jeep – the surrounding towns are steeped in history, whilst a guided walk with the resident mountain guide will reveal the incredible beauty of the landscape. The concierge is on hand to organise whatever kind of tour you’d like, from roaming the streets of Herceg Novi, Perast and Kotor, to exploring the canyons and lakes of the country’s many national parks.
family
Families don’t take long to feel right at home here. With rooms and suites set up for accommodating children, kids menus in some of the restaurants, a private beach and a complimentary kids club (KidsOnly for the younger guests, and One Tribe for teens), there’s everything you could possibly need. Babysitting can also be easily arranged.
sustainability
The resort was designed with energy and water saving devices in place, and all bath products are in refillable bottles, in order to reduce waste and single use plastic.
