Schweizerhof – Zermatt, Switzerland
An established Zermatt favourite, the Schweizerhof welcomes back skiers and their families year after year. This is undoubtedly down to the warmest of Swiss hospitality, simple luxury and an atmosphere so relaxed, you could be at home. And since its neo alpine renovation in 2018 – with its brief to embrace luxury and refined living – it rightly sits amongst the best hotels in the resort. It’s the friendliness of the staff and the exceptional restaurant choice that we love so much. And its central location is a big plus.
The hotel’s electric taxis can take you to the lifts slightly further from the heart of the village then pick you up at the end of the day, and you’re only moments from Zermatt’s atmospheric streets, gourmet restaurants, wine bars and shops.

Wooden paneling and floors, cool marble bathrooms, and little traditional Swiss touches – a cow bell here and a Matterhorn throw there – all the rooms and suites are sophisticatedly designed and furnished. High tech appliances such as iPads, Dyson hairdryers, enormous flat screen TVs and Nespresso coffee machines are all added bonuses. Nearly all the rooms and suites come with a balcony or terrace with views across the village or best of all, the Matterhorn.
food
Families have been known to never eat out when staying at the Schweizerhof – the food is that good. You can start your evening at the cocktail bar, then choose from three very different restaurants. At Le Schweizerhof Kitchen your dinner is prepared in front of you and pizzas are cooked in a wood burning fire. La Muna serves exquisite Asian and Peruvian fusion cuisine that’s often a welcome antidote to mountain eating.
And for hearty, traditional Swiss fare, the Cheese Factory is a stübli style eatery, with fondue and raclette made from local seasonal cheeses. When the live folk music starts up, so does the waltzing!
activities
One of the joys of staying at the Schweizerhof is that everything you could possibly need is on hand. The in-house ski shop has all the latest equipment and clothing, and staff will advise you on the best skis for you, then fit them. The Spa, with its very large pool, saunas, steam room and Jacuzzis can individually tailor treatment sessions and offers some peace and quiet after a day on the mountain.
family
The Schweizerhof could not be more family friendly. The Kids Club is enormous and one of the best in the resort with supervised activities including a climbing wall and full of toys and games. It is free of charge to hotel guests but the price of meals is not included. There are children’s menus available as well as a babysitting service on request.
Summer
Zermatt truly comes alive in the summer. You’ll find this mountain haven bursting with different activities, including climbing, hiking, or mountain biking! Even better, it’s all surrounded by stunning the scenery of the Swiss Alps, with staggering glacial peaks overlooking vast and beautiful lakes. Rising above it all is the famous Matterhorn, inviting relaxing excursions and experiences. Zermatt village is equipped with everything you might want.
Simply strolling through the classically alpine streets is invigorating enough, but why not try your hand at football, tennis, and even beach volleyball with a mountain backdrop! There are tons of events held each year, like guided tours and museum exhibitions, with plenty to keep the children entertained too. Look to inhale the clean, alpine air with Schweizerhof today!
