Arranged in stand-alone casitas, each one brings the outdoors in. Spacious and sleeping up to three, the Superior Rooms are studio style in design with a living area and terrace. The slightly larger Junior Suites are ideal for two, or a family with small children.
Facing west for the best sunsets and views of the Pacific on a clear day, the Premium Suites can sleep up to three, and feature a large terrace. The Senda Suites are ideal for larger families – up to six guests – and offer the most privacy. They are stand-alone bungalows with plenty of living area, inside and out.
food
Serving a mix of traditional Costa Rican and international dishes, Senda Monteverde is very proud of its commitment to sourcing local produce. Dishes are packed with flavour and accompanied by a delicious range of homemade goodies. Vegetables and herbs are grown in their own kitchen gardens and there’s a comprehensive list of South American wines. The breakfasts are superb, with plentiful fruit and the huevos rancheros are some of the best around.
activities
One of the most famous cloud forests on the planet, Monteverde contains 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity, including over 400 species of bird, making it a prime reason to visit. It’s home to a vast array of species, including the two-toed sloth, the resplendent quetzal, jaguars and tapirs to name but a few. Senda Monteverde is on the edge of the Aguti Wildlife Reserve and all guests receive complimentary entry – it’s just across a hanging bridge.
Highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic resident nature guides are on hand for personalised tours, and their ability to spot the tiniest of tree frog is astonishing. The night walks are a particular highlight. Monteverde is the self-proclaimed birthplace of ziplining, and no stay should be without a tree top adventure. The famous canopy tours here include miles of cables, platforms with incredible views above the clouds and some of the longest hanging bridges in the country. Back at the lodge, each afternoon, there are a range of classes and talks – from bracelet making to cocktail classes and wildlife lectures. There’s also a small Spa and treatments can be offered in-room. All of which will make you sleep very soundly indeed!
family
With accommodation perfect for families and itineraries that will have your children in awe, this mountain lodge ticks every box. From spotting bare-necked umbrella birds to nature trails through the forest and a playground at the property – there’s plenty of activities for all ages. And of course, for older ones, zip lining will be the major attraction.
sustainability
Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the world’s rarest ecosystems and has been protected since 1972. Senda Monteverde’s philosophy is to be at one with its surroundings, and ensure it has a positive impact on the local community and minimise its footprint. It employs, trains and develops local staff and has planted nearly 6,000 native plants. Water is heated through solar power; there’s a plastic-free policy; cleaning products are biodegradable and much of the food is homegrown.
