Teranka – Formentera, Balearic Islands
Teranka embraces all the seductive qualities of the low key Mediterranean island of Formentera – luring guests to its relaxed, and effortlessly chic terraces, gardens and loungers. Perfectly placed, steps from the beach, and blending in beautifully with its protected dune filled surroundings, it’s a place where you instantly disconnect from your everyday life. It houses an ever evolving art collection, with works linked to the island and its way of life, with objects dotted around the buildings and grounds.
Exceptional staff instantly learn your preferences, regularly bringing you juice shots by the pool, but if you need even more pampering, a massage can be arranged. The lively beach club 10punto7 is minutes away, but you might find peeling yourself away from the pool or the rooftop terrace too exerting. This really is barefoot luxury.

Objets d’art and antiques furnish the walls and sides and organic amenities fill the bathrooms. The Mar options, all in the main building, range from Deluxe Rooms that look out over the pool, or have a partial or full sea view, to the Deluxe Junior Suites Sea View that are spacious and welcoming.
Stone cottages around the grounds house the intimate bolt holes that are the Tierra Suites, with their private terraces bursting with aromatic plants. For total seclusion, the Cielo suites are the ones to choose. The Garden Suite comes with its own kitchenette, whilst the Rooftop Suites enjoy 360 degree views of the sea, the dunes, and the surrounding pine canopy.
food
For toes in the sand dining, the garden restaurant, Vert Mar is the heart of Teranka. Sumptuous breakfasts, with a seemingly infinite choice will start your day with a smile, and lunches and dinners, around long communal tables and under twinkling lights, promise deliciously fresh regional fare and a fine choice of tapas. Up on the roof, the sail covered restaurant serves Japanese and French dishes, and moves it up a gear at the weekend with a live DJ set. Watch the sun set from the bar up here, with a signature Terankini cocktail.
activities
If a morning sun salutation is your thing, you’ll have to be up early to enjoy the yoga deck, or maybe head for the beach for a dip. Wellness is a part of life at Teranka, with a series of rituals throughout the day and therapists trained in ancient practices that will leave you connecting to the rhythms of the island. Formentear beckons to be explored – by bike, by foot, or on horseback, and most definitely on the water.
There’s excellent sailing and diving around the island, and the waters are perfect for a gentle kayak or paddle board session. Take your pick from a multitude of gorgeous beaches – Teranka lies on the idyllic Playa Mitjorn – and graze your way around the beach restaurants. There are vineyards to visit, markets to browse and sun loungers to lie in for very long periods of the day.
family
Teranka is very much a grown-up retreat, with no facilities for younger guests. Families with children over the age of 12 however, are welcomed with open arms, with the water sports particularly appealing.
sustainability
Formentera is a leading island when it comes to sustainable tourism, and it’s therefore no surprise that Teranka takes its commitments to the environment very seriously. Water is recycled and used for irrigation; single use plastics are avoided and all materials are reusable wherever possible. Guests are encouraged to walk or cycle around the island, along one of the many “rutas verdes” (green routes), and all produce is sourced responsibly.
Most importantly, the hotel is a partner with Ibiza Preservation – a marine organization working to protect the Posidania meadows off the coast.
