Channelling pure countryside splendour into various countryside retreats, the Wilderness Reserve is split between Sibton Park Estate and the Chapel Barn Estate, both making for glorious stays!
Sibton Park Estate:
The wonderful Sibton Park Estate forms one gorgeous half of the Wilderness Reserve. Dating back to the first Viking settlers of the 12th Century, a vast and enthralling history is soaked into the landscape. More recently, the estate has been restored in accordance with wider conservation efforts.
Guided through the magnificent gates and Sweetshop entrance, your first sight is a winding driveway passing through trees and grassland, adjacent to a spectacular lake. Here you’ll find a choice of eight different hideaways (Clockhouse, Hex Cottage, The Barn, Farmhouse, Cartshed, Walled Garden, Garden Cottage, and Sibton Park) serving any group size from couples seeking a romantic get-away, to large groups in need of the ultimate party house. The jewel in the Sibton Park Estate crown is the Grade II listed, Georgian country Manor House, Sibton Park. Equipped with fourteen individually styled rooms, including thirteen doubles with ensuites, the Sibton Park Manor House manages to sleep twenty-seven. Lose yourself strolling the extravagant halls, stumbling onto expansive dining rooms, a games room, home cinema, and gym!
The tennis court and pool are located on this estate but are available to be used by guests across the full Reserve.
Chapel Barn Estate:
As the other half of the Wilderness Reserve, the Chapel Barn Estate is equally filled with fascinating history. Originally a Tudor farmstead, remnants of this heritage have been preserved in the oak frame of the Chapel Barn. This collection of worker’s cottages and barns has been lovingly restored and the rolling landscape brought back to life, with cattle and sheep once again grazing the valley sides and a traditional apple orchard being replanted. Additionally, sensitive restoration of all the properties on this estate involved using local materials and craftsmen, with lime pargetting, long straw, and read thatch.
There are a variety of properties scattered across the Chapel Barn Estate, including the stunning Cider House and The Grange each with their own private swimming pools. Relish the remoteness of The Hovel and The Tabernacle, both one-bedroom cottages with a private hidden hot tubs. Enjoy the grandeur of the Moat Cottage, guarded by your very own ring of water. Or for the ultimate party pad head to the Chapel Barn. Capable of comfortable sleeping forty-two, across fifteen double bedrooms and three bunk rooms, all being ensuites. Connected to the Tennis Pavilion hideaway (can also be booked separately), you’ll be spoilt for choice with an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, treatment room, games room, and home cinema. Avid fans of Made In Chelsea might also notice that the Chapel Barn featured in a recent season, enabling the stars to live out their best lives soaked in luxury whilst isolating in a collective bubble.
Activities across the Wilderness Reserve:
If variety be the spice of life, it gets no hotter than the Wilderness Reserve. Besides blissful relaxation, the estate offers plenty of action, taking full advantage of its incredible surroundings mean that activities include almost anything you can imagine.
Test your skill on the tennis court, open year-round, or navigate the serpentine river by paddleboard or rowboat, as part of Suffolk’s stunning wetlands. Take an informative tour to learn more about the estate with one of the knowledgeable Wilderness Rangers to experience the full dawn chorus. Venture into the great outdoors, with survival classes geared towards both children and adults, or savour a bonfire experience to conclude the day. Practise your shot in a clay pigeon shoot, guided by world-class instructors, or improve your aim over axe-throwing, archery, or air rifle sessions.
