With the clocks changing this week, we can’t help but have a little spring in our step…. A whiff of warmth in the air, borders bursting into bloom and the sounds of birds chattering excitedly; there really is no better time to explore the UK.
It’s fair to say we love our UK collection. From the best places for beach strolls and woodland walks to disconnecting in enchanting rural boltholes and stomping around large-landed estates, we have something for families, couples and friends alike. Read on for some of our favourite places to visit this spring.
Remote and Rugged Wilderness
Whether it’s the tip of Scotland or the depths of Dartmoor, we have plenty of secret wilderness spots to help you switch off and recharge your batteries. No traffic, no light pollution, just clean fresh air, long countryside walks and the soothing sound of birdsong.
Lundies House and Kyle House in Sutherland are both absolute favourites of ours and we promise you will feel a million miles away from everything up here in the Scottish Highlands. Further south, Dartmoor offers the largest and wildest area of open country in the south of England – and Hotel Endsleigh is the perfect base to explore the pristine woods, meadows and moors.
Coastal Escapes
It’s never too early in the year to get your fix of salty sea air and our collection of coastal properties provide the perfect base for beach strolls and long seafood lunches on sunny spring days. We love Hotel Tresanton, a hop skip and a jump from some of the best beaches in the country, or try Chewton Glen which borders the New Forest and is just a few minutes from the sea. Chewton Glen offers the winning combination of country and coast, we guarantee the whole family will love it and what’s more, kids stay for free. For the ultimate UK island escape, we couldn’t recommend Alderney more. At just 3.5 by 1.5 miles in size this charming island is easily walked or cycled around in a day – one of the best ways to see the entire island and offers the most stunning coastal landscape to explore. Check out The Blonde Hedgehog – we know you’ll love it!
Landed Estates
Countryside splendour is the name of the game here with glorious spaces for invigorating outdoor fun. The Wilderness Reserve in Suffolk is just 2 hours from London and boasts 5,000 acres of parkland, native woodland, lakes and wetland to explore. Find your own little hideaway and lose yourself in this bubble of ‘Englishness’ – play tennis, try paddle-boarding or go rowing on the lake, listen to the full dawn chorus with the estate rangers or try your hand at clay pigeon shooting, there is plenty to keep you busy. There are large choice of self-catering hideaways to choose from whether you looking for a romantic bolthole or family escape. For big family getaways or larger groups, stay at The Cider House or The Farmhouse, where they both comfortably sleep 12 people.
If you are instead looking for a hotel with plenty of stomping ground, check out Heckfield Place in Hampshire or Middleton Lodge in Yorkshire. Both adored by our team and offer all the benefits of a rural escape paired with the service, facilities, interiors, and first-class food of a luxury hotel.
