The best countries to visit in February

It’s the shortest month of the year, but it certainly feels longer. February is definitely a good month to head to warmer climes for a top of up vitamin D, or to nip to the Alps for some ski-school free pistes (barring half-term of course). Whatever temperature you’re after – there’s a perfect destination.

Sweden

For Northern Light spotters, February can be a good time to head to the Arctic Circle. The snow cover means ideal ski conditions and the landscape is bewitching. And ice baths are particularly invigorating! The Sámi people hold many festivals at this time of the year – celebrating the Aurora Borealis.

Zermatt

When the weather is ever so slightly warmer, and the ski conditions are excellent, Zermatt is the place to be. And not only will you avoid the crowds, you’ll get into all the restaurants – one of this resort’s biggest draws.

Dolomites

With crisp temperatures, comes excellent powder conditions. The Dolomites not only make an excellent half term ski destination, but a superb choice outside the school holidays for those looking for quieter slopes, great restaurants and spectacular scenery. Ski the Hidden Valley, stopping off for lunch at the Scottoni Rifugio.

Abu Dhabi

This most cultural Emirate enjoys very comfortable temperatures during February – not too hot, but warm enough to sit by the pool, cycle the Corniche, hike in the mountains or head out into the desert. Check the calendar for outdoor concerts and events this month.

Mexican Riviera

The golden stretches of sand and the mercury hitting 30C, (the water temperature is not much lower) are reason enough to pack your suitcase and head to the Mayan Riviera. Not only are you bound to catch up with a carnival in February, it’s also excellent whale watching season.

Kenya

It’s the dry season in February – perfect conditions for both safari and the beach. Game is easy to spot out on the savannah and watering holes, particularly in Samburu and the Masai Mara; the days are not too hot, and the evenings are pleasantly warm.

Sri Lanka

It’s the dry season on the western half of this tropical island during February, bringing clear skies and minimal rain. This makes it the ideal time to visit the Cultural Triangle, browse the streets of Galle, learn to surf in Weligama Bay and trek in the tea country.
