The best countries to visit in April

We love April for a cheeky European city break, sunny spring skiing and some proper warmth to the sun the further south you go. Easter usually falls somewhere in this month, so it’s good to know where to go if you want to avoid the crowds.

AMSTERDAM

Arrive in Amsterdam in late April (27th to be precise) and you’ll find the streets, canals and population all decked out in orange. Koningsdag (King’s Day) is the annual celebration of the monarch’s birthday – and it’s one big street party. And of course, don’t forget the tulip fields at this time of the year. It’s usually warm enough to cycle everywhere and the cafés start to put their tables out on the canal sides.

Panama City is comfortable for exploring, and the waters around Bocas del Toro are clear for snorkelling and diving.
