With temperatures in the high 20s and sun from morning til night, September is an ideal time to visit these Indian Ocean shores. The diving and snorkeling is excellent at this time of year, and a trip to Two Mile Reef will reward you with vibrantly coloured fish, reef sharks, moray eels and turtles. Go deeper and you may spot sailfish, marlin and humpback whales. The beaches of the Bazaruto Archipelago are particularly appealing right now.

Head for Sabi Sands in the Kruger National Park, where game viewing is at its best, thanks to the dry season. Whilst down in Hermanus, take a boat out onto the ocean to witness the migration of the Southern Right Whales. Spring is well and truly on its way, with the blossom coming out along the Garden Route.
