The best countries to visit in November

The nights are drawing in, and winter is looming fast. Time to top up on some Vitamin D and treat yourselves to a couples only trip. November is the time for exotic long haul destinations and all those places that have been on your bucket list for ever. Or maybe it’s time to create a new bucket list – here are some ideas.

Bali

November falls between the dry and the wet season, bringing warm days with only the occasional, short-lived shower. And best of all, it’s one of the quietest times on the island. Head for Pura Ulun Danu Bratan Temple – one of the main Hindu sites in Bali, cycle along the edges of paddy fields, wander through Ubud art market and enjoy delicious street food. The sacred art of shadow puppetry is celebrated on the 25^th with Tumpek Wayang.

Morocco

If you’re after a more moderate temperature, Morocco in November is extremely comfortable. It’s still warm (you’ll need to wrap up in the evenings), and the weather is perfect for desert and mountain trekking. It’s a very pleasant month to wander the souks, street markets and gardens of Marrakech – and it’s only just under four hours away.

Egypt

With the intense summer heat gone, November offers ideal temperatures for both sunbathing and sightseeing. It’s just the beginning of the peak season, and a good time to see the treasures of one of the world’s oldest civilisations. Combine the pyramids and the temples of Luxor with some beach time on the shores of the Red Sea.

New Zealand

If you’ve got some time to spare, head to the other side of the world. It’s late spring, early summer in New Zealand, but it’s still before most visitors arrive. The mountains are in full bloom, the waterfalls of the fjordlands are spectacular, the walking trails are less busy, and many of the vineyards hold food and wine festivals.

Australia

If you just happen to be in the Southern Hemisphere, why not extend your stay and stop off in Australia? It’s the shoulder season here, with warm temperatures in the cities of Sydney and Melbourne – the latter hosting some of the calendar’s biggest sporting events; perfect conditions for some epic road trips, and clear blue skies in the Whitsundays for island hopping. You might need more than two weeks…

Sailing BVI's

For some fabulous sailing, great anchorages and more chance of getting a pristine beach all to yourself, try to head here before the festive rush. The trade winds are consistent and kind, the waters are warm, and the days long and sunny.

Dubai

With an average daily temperature of around 27 °C, November is an ideal month to visit this Emirate. It’s equally perfect for lying by the pool, heading out into the desert, or exploring the many well-known sights. This month sees a number of arts and cultural events, as well as the DP Golf World Tour at Jumeirah.

Raja Ampat - Indonesia

This month you’ll experience perfect water conditions – calm and clear – and hot, sunny days. It’s the beginning of the dry season, making for perfect sailing, and exploring the almost infinite islands and atolls. The diving is exceptional now, with incredible visibility and the chance to see manta rays up close.

Oman

The markets are teeming with autumn produce – pomegranates, walnuts and dates; the temperatures in the late 20s, and the waters wonderfully warm. All this makes November an ideal time to visit. Combine a few nights in the desert in a luxury camp, a couple of days mountain trekking, then the rest of your stay on the beach or a boat in the Arabian Gulf.

Cambodia

The monsoon season has drawn to a close, and the dry season begins. The Christmas crowds are not yet here, making an entire day at Angkor Wat a fabulous experience. Hire bikes to cycle around the vast grounds, or venture further into the countryside and to lesser temples, on a guided tour. Early November sees the Water Festival where colourful boats take to the Mekong.
