Thrill Seeking
New Zealand is the self-styled capital of adventure. This is where bungy jumping was born; white water rafting shoots you through Shotover River; helicopters fly you over glaciers, and jet boats spin you at high speed on Lake Taupo.
Wine
The country has gained a first class reputation for the standard of its wine, thanks to its climate and soil. Vineyards throughout Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay and Central Otago offer tours and tastings, and many have excellent restaurants.
Culture
The Maori name for New Zealand is Aotearoa, and their rich and colourful culture is evident everywhere, particularly in the North Island. Experience their ceremonial dance – the haka, learn about their history in Waitangi, or enjoy a traditional Hangi feast in Rotorua.
Auckland
Named the City of Sails, it arcs around its vast natural harbour. It’s a vibrant centre, with excellent shopping and restaurants, black sand beaches, and is a great starting point for day trips. Go whalewatching, kayak to Rangitoto Island, or visit the farmers’ market in Matakana.
The Bay of Islands
This archipelago of over 140 islands off the northeast coast of North Island, boasts pristine beaches, excellent sailing, dolphin watching, big game fishing, and even mountain biking.
